Antonio Damasio is the David Dornsife Professor of Neuroscience and director of the Brain and Creativity Institute at the University of Southern California, positions he has held since 2006. He also serves as an adjunct professor at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, CA. Antonio’s research focuses on the neurobiology of mind and behavior, with an emphasis on emotion, decision-making, memory, communication and creativity; he has published dozens of journal articles on these topics. Prior to joining USC, Antonio spent 20 years at the University of Iowa, where he was Van Allen Distinguished Professor, head of the department of neurology, and director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Before joining Iowa, he was a professor in neurology at the University of Lisbon Medical School. Antonio earned his MD from the University of Lisbon Medical School and his Ph.D. at the University of Lisbon.
