Jamshed Bharucha is the Inaugural Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of SRM University, AP-Amaravati, a new university being built in Amaravati, the newly designed capital city of the state of Andhra Pradesh. He is also President Emeritus of Cooper Union. He spent most of his academic career at Dartmouth College, where he was the John Wentworth Professor of Psychological & Brain Science, Deputy Provost and then Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. At Dartmouth, he received the Huntington Teaching Award. Bharucha subsequently served as Provost & Senior Vice President of Tufts University and the 12th President of Cooper Union. He was a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, was named a Pride of America Honoree by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Alumnae & Alumni of Vassar College. His volunteer board activities have included the Board of Trustees of Vassar College, the Board of Corporators of Hallmark Health, the Board of Directors of the Vellore Christian Medical College Foundation, the Board of Visitors of the Longy School of Music, and the Board of Advisors of the Indian International Model UN. His research was focused on the cognitive neuroscience of music, including computational neural net models of how the brain learns musical patterns and fMRI studies of musical activation of the brain. More recently, his research has been on advanced data analytics to reveal patterns in higher education finance. Bharucha received a B.A. from Vassar College in Biopsychology, an M.A. in philosophy from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Harvard University. He is an avid amateur violinist, having received an Associate’s Diploma from the Trinity College of Music in London.
