Paula Myrick Short is Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR). As chief academic officer, she has systemwide responsibilities for TBR’s 13 community colleges and 6 universities. Among other initiatives, she is leading the redesign of teacher education in the TBR universities as part of the Tennessee Teaching Quality Initiative. Prior to the Tennessee Board of Regents, Paula served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for the University of Missouri System. Prior to that, she was Department Chair of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Paula has held tenure at the University of Missouri-Columbia, The Pennsylvania State University, and Auburn University. She is currently a tenured professor at Tennessee State University. Paula has published more than 125 scholarly articles, books, book chapters, and technical reports. Her most recent book, Academic Quality Work: A Handbook for Improvement (2007), was co-authored with Bill Massy and Stephen Graham. In 1993, she received the Jack A. Culbertson Award, given nationally to an outstanding professor of educational administration for research excellence. Paula earned her Ph.D. in Administration in the Department of Organizational Development and Institutional Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
