Peter Tufano is the Sylvan C. Coleman Professor of Financial Management at the Harvard Business School and serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Planning and University Affairs there as well. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and co-chairs its working group on Household Finance. Peter’s research and course development focus on mutual funds, corporate financial engineering, and consumer finance. His work in consumer finance includes research focused on how to leverage financial innovations to serve the financial service needs of the poor. He founded Doorways to Dreams (D2D), a nonprofit R&D lab that translates these ideas into practice, including two recent changes in federal tax policy: splitting tax refunds to support low-income savings, and enabling refund recipients to direct some of their refunds to purchase inflation-indexed savings bonds. Peter’s work has been published in the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, Harvard Business Review, and various additional management and academic journals. Peter earned his Ph.D. in Business Economics at Harvard University.
